SUSE and Orange Transform Telco with Open Source 5G Networks
Discover how telco giant Orange is revolutionizing the industry with SUSE Adaptive Telco Infrastructure Platform (ATIP) and Rancher to deploy a full-scale 5G standalone network.
To support the development of a new generation of shared, interoperable network infrastructure for the telco industry, Orange uses SUSE ATIP (Adaptive Telco Infrastructure Platform).
As they describe in this case study Orange Telco Cloud and SUSE ATIP have joined forces to bring about a significant transformation in telco networks.
This partnership aims to enhance openness and agility in the telecommunications industry, paving the way for innovative solutions and improved network performance.
SUSE ATIP is a telco-optimized edge computing platform that enables telecom network operators to innovate and future-proof modernization of their networks. It achieves this with an open and flexible infrastructure that adapts easily to future needs, is optimized for telco-grade performance, and simplifies operations at scale.
SUSE ATIP 3.0 is the first commercially available telco cloud stack that is strongly aligned and co-developed with Linux Foundation Europe’s Project Sylva, an initiative founded by the five largest European telecom operators Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telecom Italia, Telefonica and Vodafone as well as Ericsson and Nokia to develop a reference cloud software framework.
Through the Pikeo project, a sandbox for 5G network function services, Orange partnered with SUSE to implement cloud native infrastructure, manage lifecycle upgrades and streamline network function deployment with Kubernetes-based open source technologies.
With SUSE’s support, Orange successfully integrated standardized telco workloads, including CNFs and VNFs, for seamless management across bare metal, virtual machines and cloud environments.
